The Green Jean – Upcycle your Wardrobe

If you’re not down with saving the planet these days, you’re either woefully out of style or painfully out of touch with reality. In which case, this post is not for you. However, if you are a proud citizen of the globe and want to find a new way to help save the planet you hold dear, this post is definitely for you.

Everyone’s always looking for (easy) ways to do their part in helping our planet and thanks to the internet, there are many, manyways to do that without leaving the sanctity of your bed. But with Green Jeans from Dirtball Fashion, you don’t have to do anything more than sit, slouch, or lay, and you’re helping to clean up the world.

Go you.

Saving Our Planet is the Thing to Do

You may be wondering ‘How can I expect to become a planeteer without getting off  up?’ and the answer comes from the very make up of Green Jeans. Dirtball has been exclusively dealing in 100% eco-friendly, 100% made in the U.S.A. clothing since 2008, constructing their polyester from recycled water bottles and cotton “from the cutting floor.”

Founded on being a company that’s economically, environmentally and socially responsible, all of Dirtbag’s products are made and assembled in the U.S.A from recycled materials and their latest in the line of green fashion is the Green Jean. The jeans are made up of 71% cotton and 31% polyester, derived from eight to ten recycled water bottles.

So how do you make denim out of deer park? After being discarded, the bottles are sorted by color, stripped of labels and caps and ground into shavings. Those shavings are melted and molded into a polyester fiber that is chemically and functionally almost identical to virgin polyester. The cotton is taken from industry scraps that would normally go to landfills and is sorted according to color. The cotton is then blended with the pseudo-polyester to make a new fiber which is spun into yarn and knitted into fabric.

By pre-sorting the materials by color, Dirtball avoids dying the fabric in manufacturing, which saves water, chemicals, and energy. The company also considers their actions on the environmental scope from how they utilize printing services to promotional materials and packaging–everything is done in order to leave the smallest carbon footprint possible.

The pants will run with sizes 28-38 and inseams 30-36 (sorry ladies!) in a classic comfort fit, so you’re always in style.  There are four color washes to choose from and they work in house, but do ship internationally. If the campaign is fully funded, Dirtball is prepared to sustain 25 U.S. manufacturing jobs for up to 2 months and for every 100,000 pairs of  jeans they produce, they save approximately 8,400 gallons of crude oil and keep 700,000 water bottles out of landfills. Isn’t about time you replaced your old jeans anyway?
